A phone call. My mother. Black History and pain. This project is a raw recording and raw telling of her experiences in life and her old and new viewpoint on the world and the history of our people. What you hear in this album was not planned. You'll hear doors opening, the hum of background noises and for the really keen listener my kid makes a quick appearance. We have regular phone conversations we like to call "wellness checks". This particular call developed into a very deep , very painful awakening of her outlook on society and her own history. We talked for hours and half way through something moved me to record her words. She poured her heart and soul out for 4 hours straight. I was only (but fortunately) able to record 1 hour and 37 minutes of it.
Thank you mom for letting me put music to your story.
